JOE PERRY Praises Boxer TYSON FURY For Singing AEROSMITH Ballad After World Title Victory

AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry has praised British boxer Tyson Fury for celebrating his victory over Ukraine's Wladimir Klitschko and his taking the world heavyweight championship by singing an AEROSMITH song.

The 27-year-old boxer beat the reigning champion in Dusseldorf, Germany on November 28, ending Klitschko's 11-year winning streak. Tyson then started singing AEROSMITH's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" to his wife, Paris.

Addressing the crowd, Fury said: "God gave me the ability to do like I've done and I want him to thank him for that. With God, anything is possible.

"I'd just like to say to Wladimir, you're a great champion, and thanks very much for having me. You know it was all fun and games in the build-up and I just wanted to be confident, young and brash. We all were there sometimes.

"And I promised everybody I'd sing a song after this fight, so this is to my U.K. fans, my Irish fans, American fans, and my new German fans, and most of all this is dedicated to my wife."

Asked by Vanyaland what he thought of Fury's rendition, Perry said: "I thought it was great! [It was a] real honor to hear him sing it. Diane Warren — our friend who wrote [the song] — must've done a backflip! To belt it out like that… talk about being in shape. My hat's off to him; and to sing to his wife… he's a class act!"

"I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" — which was penned by famed songwriter Diane Warren and prominently featured in the "Armageddon" soundtrack — spent four weeks at No. 1 beginning September 5, 1998, knocking Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine" out of the top slot. AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler later explained that part of the tune's success was the "the magic of [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer calling me up and saying, 'We're doing a movie called 'Armageddon'. Your daughter [Liv Tyler] is in it. And I want four AEROSMITH songs plus the one you did with Diane Warren.'"

"It was a shock, not because we had our first No. 1," Tyler said. "But because it was our only No. 1. I thought that [of] all those other AEROSMITH songs, at least one or two did."
